I’ve been going through a lot of stuff recently and this quote just pulled me through.

“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.”
— F. Scott Fitzgerald

Right now, my mind is not in a good place, neither is my health i wont even mention my heart. I’m not exactly proud of how I’ve been acting recently but I’m going to keep trying to he better. I’m not going to be a passive victim of life. I choose to be an active force. I won’t let my life just pass me by.

There are so many other things to consider. If I feel lonely now, it’s only because I’ve sunken back into seeking validation in another (who was only too glad to give it). It’s time to reset my mind and time to start going for what I want. No more settling. I’ve been so apathetic recently and I guess that’s the product of my excusing apathy for rebellion (against societal norms). None of that anymore. This shit is tough but I’m tougher.

I am very into this band.

It’s kind of insane because I don’t even like OPM (Original Pinoy/Filipino Music)

Like, even I’m amazed at how much I love them.

but the first time I listened to this song,

so yeah!

I’m grooving!

Okay, this sub-blog of mine is devoted to my favorite things at the moment. It will contain (hopefully) daily snippets of my life and what ever things I’m loving that day.(Be it a novel, food, a poem, a vocabulary word, a bit of fanfiction, a quote, a song, or anything else under the sun or part of the observable universe.)

You may ask why I need a whole new blog for that function which is essentially what a blog is for. Answer: My main blog is full of reblogs and it will take too much time to sift out my personal stuff from them as I am a trigger happy reblogger (what with missing e and all…)

So, no more questions?

Good :)

All right, let’s start this off right.

“Fairy tales are more than true, not because they tell us that dragons exist but that they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”

Isn’t it a beautiful turn of phrase?

The above quote is one of my all-time favorites hence my URL name, offairytalesanddragons.tumblr.com.

The great G.K. Chesterton uttered those words and to him, I am eternally grateful. He’s put into words the magic of everyday life, the fiction in our reality, our own adventures out of the mundane.

All right! My first post is over! I feel accomplished.

Cheers!

Slytherin PRIDE! I need this in my closet before I start uni!

1 k 1

My current favorite read is David Levithan’s The Lover’s Dictionary. This is my third novel by Levithan, the first was Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. I am so glad I got the last copy. It’s pricey but so worth it. My copy is 585 Philippine Pesos and I had to beg two hundred off my parents to get this but here it is in all its glory. It has the format familiar to fanfiction readers everywhere. It’s essentially a compilation of one-shots, with single word titles. Yes, It’s been done before and by less seasoned and amateur writers too. But David’s style is so unprecedented! I don’t even know how to begin to describe it. It’s funny and swoon worthy and painful and so witty and there are sarcastic parts that just really do show love in every part of its progression or you know, regression. Buy it. Read it. Again. And again. And again.

1. Food- Currently Unnamed Concoction

(Chocolatey Goodness Improvised)

My oven is currently busted but my dad is home so I wanted to make last night special (read as: make dessert) I wanted to make fudge brownies but no recipes fit my given predicament until I happened upon a “No Bake Chocolate Cake” recipe. Spoiler Alert: YOU NEED  FUCKING OVEN for it. Anyway I made this little no-bake thing last night and it is quickly becoming my favorite dessert ever. I refrigerated it instead of baking and it turned it well enough. It’s got chocolate, walnuts, crushed graham crackers and butter. That’s it. :) Fairly easy to do.

I melted the chocolate and butter over a double broiler added bits of crackers and toasted walnuts. I popped it in the fridge for a couple of hours and BOOM, deliciousness served on a silver freaking platter. I have yet to name my concoction! Message me or reblog this with possible names!

2. Book- The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight
(No Spoilers but a bit of a Discussion)

The book of the week, well last week, really but it’s so transcendent…

Okay, whatever. Jennifer E Smith’s The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight is just so wonderful. It’s honest and it faces that question of love at first sight pretty head on in a beautifully funny, paradoxical, sarcastic, romantic way. I love that it made me cry and that it explores other facets of love as well, not just romantic love but also filial. I really loved the way Smith used Hadley’s hesitant backstory to off set the whole crazy romantic thing Oliver had going on.

Bottom line: Buy it Read it Become a better person.

3. New Buy- The Lover’s Dictionary

(Love Decoded)

I know; I’m cheating by using two novels!

I won’t delve too deep in this as I just bought it but holy fucking bacon, this shit is so beautiful and honest.

4. Video- Point B, TED Talk, and Hiroshima by Sarah Kay

(Spoken Word Poetry)

This is actually a TED talk of Sarah’s. She talks about her writing process  and her teaching strategies. She points out some hilarious anecdotes and performs two of her poems. I really love the first one, Point B because it’s so motherly and nurturing and lovely!

5. Song- Cough Syrup (Glee Version) covered by Darren Everett Criss.

(Permanent Repeat)

Perfection. It’s just so poignant and it’s currently on endless loop in my ipod.

That concludes today’s round up!

BTW:

I went to the bookstore today and grabbed a new copy of Coraline. I hadn’t noticed until then that the epigraph was the same as my favorite quote! So, confirmed! G.K. Chesterton!
